TEARS ARE THE VISIBLE RESPONSE TO THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT…….
AND WE ARE WASHED CLEAN.
She was a sinful woman. And she was all alone. Life had driven her to that level….she was just trying to survive. She had heard he was in town and something inside her told her to seek him out and to bring him a gift, so she grabbed the alabaster jar of her prized perfume and hit the road. She wasn’t sure what would happen. But there she was, a sinful woman amidst the Pharisees, standing behind the Christ…. at his feet, as he reclined at the table.
And then the tears started to fall….
She was undone. She fell to her knees and her tears washed over his feet. She was embarrassed, she was sorry, …. she had lost control, and she had nothing to wipe the tears with……so she took her hair and wiped his feet. The tears were coming faster now, there was a huge lump in her throat and she could not speak….so she kissed his feet…. to let him know….and then anointed them with the perfume. There was a holy silence….only her sobbing could be heard. Nothing was said….nothing had to be said. The tears and her kiss had said it all…..…..and Jesus said:
“your sins are forgiven “
Jesus knows. He knows how you got there. He sees the tears. He feels the repentance in your heart. He forgives and he remembers no more. He lifts us up, sets us on a rock, renews our strength, walks with us the rest of our days……and then welcomes us home……forever.
He is our Savior.
